What does success mean to you? Everyone measures success differently and below are just some of the measures:
- By money
- By gaining a promotion
- By getting a new job
- By being highly thought in a role e.g.: management
Whatever you think as being successful this is what you need to reflect on when asked this question.
Some possible answers to this are:
- Yes, I believe that I am successful because I try very hard in everything I do and I successfully complete and exceed my tasks.
- There isn’t a time I have thought about true success however when I reach a senior management position in my career then I will think I have been successful. (It’s perhaps too early in your career to tell).
- Yes when I graduated from university I realised that I was successful and I use that as the basis for my working life and hope to continue being successful.
You are not asked this question as a trick, there is no right or wrong answer it is merely to see how you see yourself and how you handle this, how you come across. Employers have to be carefully that your personality and how you work will fit into their company and role.
Because there is no right and wrong answer you need to think carefully to come across well when answering this question, sound positive even if you do not feel it. Everyone has the chance and potential to be successful it is just how you as a person measures this success and how you can achieve it. A potential new employer is just looking to see if they can be the ones to help you achieve your successes within their company.
