This can be a relatively straight forward question to answer if you think about it. Most companies have more than one person working in them and even if you are only working with one other person that is still classed as a team so the answer to this question is always yes.
Every company wants to know that you will work with other people and not just hideaway on your own which is why you are asked this question at an interview to gauge your reaction and to see if you can convince them that you are a team player.
It would be wise to think of some examples when you answer this question so you would answer yes I am a team player and can give you the following example of recent team work etc. Then to think of a good scenario, well have you been involved in some team work that you could use as an example?
Some people don’t even view it as teamwork but when you are working with someone else together on something or people doing different parts of a task that ends with one result then this is what is called teamwork.
An example could be:
I was working on a new project with 3 other people in different departments, we each had different parts to the project but as a team we kept meeting regularly and communicating so that the project was completely successfully and on time. – Maybe you could also add whether you like to lead the team, are happy letting someone else make the decisions etc this will allow the interviewer to get a feel for your personality.
Even if you would rather work on your own most of the time you need to sell yourself that you are a team player and a good member of any team however you do like to also work on your own initiative and that you can work whatever way suits your employer.
