If you are looking to be a Cashier for a company and then you will usually have some previous store and or cashier experience. A Cashier is responsible for the sale of goods in a store and ensuring that the till balances at the end of each shift. You will need familiarity with products and have good customer service skills.

If you have been given an interview for the role of Cashier then you need to research the company history and the products before hand. It might be an idea to do a mystery shop of the store that you are hopefully going to be working at and see for yourself who works there, how it all appears to work, what they sell etc. You should also make sure that your outfit is smart and looking ok for the job you are applied for.

It might be an idea to do some comparisons on other stores which are similar to the one you are hoping to work for and maybe use this information during your interview.

  • How many different till systems have you worked on?



  • How would you handle a difficult customer?



  • What would you do if a product was damaged and you had to change the item?



  • Do you manage to learn about the products and prices that you are selling or do you rely on the till doing the work?



  • How many customers have you served on a busy day?



  • What would you think was a quiet day in terms of customers?



  • Who do you think are our biggest competitors and why?


Whatever questions your interviewer will ask you, they will be keen to ensure that you can speak to customers well and provide excellent customer service so that they think of the store and come back again and again. The role of a Cashier is an important one where you need to be alert and pay great attention to detail.
